In large part, it is probably as a result of my having spent so much time in Life Drawing rooms with a model, who is sat motionless, hour after hour in silence, I have developed a facination with this 'stillness'. The spaces between things and events. The model is sat naked, frozen in time, waiting. A 'dead time' a silence where so much can happen.
The physical qualities of paint are still an integral part of my expression,
and flesh tones provide an excellant conduit for a painterly response.
It's also about balancing the painterly figuative elements with a good abstract design.
When painting the figure, each sitting adds another layer on top of the previous one.
Over time, I eventually arrive at an image, a moment, that I am happy with.
Much like any other relationship, it is built up over various meetings, and can take many weeks
to arrive at a very private moment.
